In 1959, Mrs. Ruth Goepfert recruited 250 families for the membership of a brand-new, private, not-for-profit community swim club. It originally featured a 50’ x 120’ pool ranging in depth from 3 to 12 feet. It had 2 one-meter diving boards and a single 3-meter board, as well as a stainless steel sliding board.
That pool is still the centerpiece of the swim club, but many additions have occurred since. The most notable is the 6-lane 25-yard lap pool with starting blocks, used by the Hummelstown Swim Team’s Flamingos. The team uses a touch pad timing system with a 6-line display board for all meets.
The swim club also boasts a toddler wading pool with a fountain, a small playground area, several pavilions available to members for parties and gatherings, and various recreational areas. These include ping-pong, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, beach volleyball, tetherball and wiffleball.
